Biography:
Former Chairman and current Associate Professor of Surgery, Dr. Mayer had an active career as a practicing General, Vascular and Bariatric surgeon at hospitals in the North Shore-LIJ Health System until switching the focus of his career to protecting the rights of those injured by negligence and medical error. He also has extensive experience serving as an expert medical witness and in analyzing complex issues in medical malpractice litigation from both a physician's and attorney's perspective. He is widely published in the peer reviewed literature in both medicine and the law. His recent contribution regarding the impact of New York's late notice of claim statute on infant medical malpractice plaintiffs won national recognition.
